I don't know if it will help you, but I created this simple extension that redirects only the memberlist pages to the index (includes the user search page and groups page).I will not install extensions that have been abandoned or are not maintained. In those 20 years, I have never had any problems changing anything in the core files. When updating, compare the files with winmerge and you're done.
The member pages continue to work normally.
I made it for my forum and it works perfectly for me.
